World's Best Sailfishing - Conventional or Fly!

Over the last decade, Guatemala has gained an international reputation as having one of the highest concentrations of billfish — in particular Pacific Sailfish — in the world. Guatemala holds both the conventional and fly fishing records with most sailfish caught in one day — 83 on conventional tackle (4 anglers) and 24 on fly (3 anglers). In 2003, two of Sailfish Bay’s clients caught and released 53 sailfish in one day and an amazing 95 releases in two days!

Guatemala's Pacific Coast is Sailfish Heaven. With a year round daily catch and release rate averaging 15-20 sailfish per boat, your trip will become a lifetime memory. In addition to the always-abundant sailfish population, you may also have the opportunity to hook dorado, tuna, blue, black and striped marlin. Inshore fishing offers roosterfish and jack crevalle.

Fishing pressure? What fishing pressure? The sport fishing fleet here is small and it's a rarity to see another boat while fishing offshore. You usually have Guatemala's calm ocean to your self.

“My crew were masters at teasing up sailfish for fly rodders. Two of us boated thirty sails in three days fishing. It was the most spectacular salt water trip I have ever done.” Bill Horn, Washington, D.C.

Scientists who have studied the large numbers of sailfish off the coast of Guatemala have concluded this might be the largest breeding ground for Pacific Sailfish in the world. While we call prime season November thru May, sailfish are caught year round in Guatemala. Since Sailfish Bay Lodge has been in operation, not one of their clients has failed to catch and release a sailfish!
