A Bit About Chile

This Republic located on the western side of South America is bordered to the south and west by the Pacific Ocean. To the north you will find Peru and to the east Bolivia and Argentina. Chile covers 292,258 square miles and is about 2650 miles long with the average width of 110 miles. The Andes Mountains define Chile, extending the entire length of the country, from the Bolivian plateau in the north to Tierra del Fuego in the south. The Andes have mountain peaks with elevations of over 20,000 feet that are covered with ice fields and glaciers. Chile's capital and largest city is Santiago, the most cosmopolitan city in all of Latin America.

Chile's population is over 12,000,000 people. The main religion is Roman Catholicism and the official language of Chile is Spanish. The Spanish Conquistadors rode the land over 500 years ago, and today gauchos still ride horseback on the unspoiled plains of Patagonia.
